Prosecutors: Off-Duty Detroit Cop Charged In Drunken Driving Crash

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit Police Officer is facing charges for allegedly driving drunk over the weekend.

According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, the cop was off-duty, late Saturday night, when he was involved in a crash while driving his personal vehicle in the area of  Grand River and Cass Avenue, on the city's west side.

When responding police arrived, they determined that 24-year-old Officer Samuel Anderson was under the influence of alcohol, prosecutors said. Anderson, who also had his department-issued handgun on him at the time of the crash, was arrested at the scene.

Another driver that was involved in the accident drove away before police arrived, prosecutors said, but no additional information about that driver -- including possible charges -- ha e been released. 

Anderson was arraigned in 36th District Court Monday afternoon on one count Operating While Intoxicated and one count Possession of a Weapon While Intoxicated. He recieved a $4,000, 10 percent bond and will be back in court for a pre-trial hearing on Aug. 2.
