Elderly Woman With Dementia Found After Deadly Nursing Home Fire In Detroit

(WWJ) A search is over for a woman who went missing after a deadly fire at a nursing home on Detroit's east side claimed the life of an elderly man.

WWJ's Vickie Thomas revealed Monday morning: After a frantic search that lasted several hours ... Eunice Pugh was found by her daughter.


Deputy Fire Commissioner Dave Fornell says a 78-year-old man died in the fire, and 67 residents were removed from the facility.

Eunice Pugh,, 79, was one of those residents evacuated from the St. Joseph’s Manor along Cadieux near Warren.

In the chaos of the moment, she disappeared.

Staff say she suffers from dementia.

He says the fire was contained to the room where it started.

Investigators believe the cause was accidental, and possibly caused by smoking.
