Entire City Of Flint Remains Under Boil Water Advisory

FLINT (WWJ) - The entire city of Flint remains under a boil water advisory following a water main break.

The break happened Thursday on a 24-inch transmission main at 12th Street just east of Van Slyke when a contractor was working on a bridge demolition.

The break may have caused a drop in water pressure and the boil water alert was issued as a precaution in a city that's had a water crisis because of lead in the water.

Transmission mains typically don’t service customers directly and the interruption in service was very limited. However, whenever a water system loses pressure for any significant length of time, precautionary measures are recommended.

Residents are advised to boil the water for one minute before using it or to use bottled water. Residents who are not using a filter to remove lead from drinking water should flush the water for at least seven minutes before collecting any to boil.

Due to the pressure loss, trapped air and loose sediment could be in the water lines. The air and sediment may be removed by flushing you water system. **Do not flush your system through the filter.** The resulting air and sediment may affect the performance of the filter and the filter cartridge should be replaced after the boil water advisory is lifted.

The boil water advisory may be lifted by the end of the day Friday.
