DETROIT (WWJ) - Thinking about taking in a movie or two over the long holiday weekend?  Here are some suggestions:

Number one on the list is Ford versus Ferrari.  It's an excellent choice for several reasons: two of the best actors in the game, Matt Damon and Christian Bale, head up a phenomenal cast, AND it's based on a story that, if it weren't true, would probably be hard to believe.  This story is more than a movie about a battle between two car companies.  It's also about determination and a test of wills.

Next on the list are two movies from Netflix: Dolemite is My Name starring Eddie Murphy in the role of comedian Rudy Ray Moore, who turned into Dolemite on stage.  And, The Irishman, starring Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci.  The Irishman, directed by Martin Scorsese, is based on the book "I Heard You Paint Houses" by Charles Brandt.

Two action-packed dramas that both get the thumbs up from me are "Terminator: Dark Fate" and "Gemini Man."

Judy, starring Renee Zellweger as showbiz legend Judy Garland, is one you'll certainly want to add to your list.  Don't be surprised if Zellweger scores some major wins this awards season.

If you're looking for something for the younger set, or the young at heart, my number one pick is Abominable about a teenager in Shanghai who discovers a lost yeti on the roof of her apartment building.   My second pick is Frozen 2, which didn't live up to the original, but children love it just the same.

Enjoy your holiday and I'll see you at the movies!

Be sure to tune in to WWJ Newsradio 950 every Friday for my weekly look at the movies with Midday Anchor Jackie Paige.
