Ferndale Police Looking For Man Caught Peeping Under Stall In Bar Bathroom

June 17, 2019 - 2:06 pm

FERNDALE (WWJ) - Ferndale police are looking for a man who was allegedly caught peeping into a stall in the ladies' room at a local bar.

Police Sgt. Barron Brown says woman was using the restroom at Soho on 9 Mile Road near Woodward Ave., late Saturday night, when she spotted the suspect.

"She just kind of had a weird feeling and looked down and saw a man's face peering underneath the divider between her stall and the stall next to hers," Brown told WWJ Newsradio 950's Ron Dewey. "She obviously became upset, started yelling. She left her stall and tried to open the door to the stall next to hers and found that it was locked."

"At some point the person in that stall unlocked the door as he was masturbating," Brown said. "And then casually walked out of the bathroom and out of the bar with people obviously yelling at him, trying to get him to stop... but he just kept walking."

Police released a photo and security video clip of the suspect on Monday.

Brown said they're hoping to identify and speak with the man to prevent him from perhaps doing something worse.

"Acts like this are precursors to more serious crimes," Brown said. "Definitely we'd like to intervene in this person's life, whether they go to jail or get some kind of help, before this type of behavior becomes more serious."

Anyone who recognizes him is asked to call police a 248-541-3650 or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 1-800-SPEAK-UP (1-800-773-2587).
