Fire Chief: Man's Body Recovered From Water Off Michigan Beach

June 18, 2018 - 4:05 pm

MILAN, Mich. (WWJ) - A man's body has been recovered after officials say he apparently drowned in Milan, Michigan, south of Ann Arbor.

According  Milan Fire Chief Robert Stevens, firefighters were dispatched at around 2 p.m. after a 911 call came in about a person who went underwater at Milan Beach -- next to US-23 off the Cone Road exit -- and didn't resurface.

A rescue team responded, the chief said, and the man's body was found floating about six feet offshore, in about six feet of water.

The beach is open to the public through a free membership, according to Stevens, but the beach was relatively empty at the time of the incident.

He said circumstances surrounding the man's death, including what led to the drowning, are unclear as an investigation continues.

Additional details -- including the man's name or age -- have not been released.
