(WWJ) A fire department vehicle with its lights and sirens activitated was struck by two cars and a semi-truck while guarding a crash site on westbound I-94 at the Jackson Road interchange.

Police said the vehicle was in a "park to protect" position on the freeway while Huron Valley Ambulance and the Michigan State Police staff dealt with a vehicle accident.

Weather may have been a factor.

"At the time of the initial call, heavy rain conditions were present in the area with limited visibility. Emergency response vehicles operating on this accident scene had all their emergency and scene lights activated," Ann Arbor police said in a press release.

No emergency personnel or civilians were injured; however, the fire truck sustained considerable damage.

Due to the accident investigation conducted by the MSP, westbound I94 at Jackson Avenue was closed to all through traffic. The Ann Arbor Police Department assisted in the closing of I-94, ramp closures, and the re-directing of traffic.

The highway system was reopened at about 3 a.m.
