June 21, 2019 - 3:11 pm

(WWJ) While people across Michigan have been complaining about the rain, flooding continues to be a problem in some communities.

In Kalamazoo, it was on odd sight to see as fish were spotted swimming in the street when flooded Kalamazoo River receded last night. According to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, a police officer rescued five fish he found stranded in very shallow water.

Seen in a video posted to the KDPS Facebook page on Friday, the cop catches what appears to be a fairly large carp with his hands and sets it down gently. Police said the officer used a nearby dumpster full of water to transport the fish back to the river, where he released them. The video had more than 6.700 views by Friday afternoon.

Kalamazoo experienced heavy flooding due to the rain, after about four inches of fell in the area Wednesday into Thursday. Police said several areas and intersections in the city were left impassable.

Photos and video on social media showed a flooded Western Michigan University’s Waldo Stadium looked more like swimming pool.
