LAKE ORION, Mich. (WWJ) -- Four people suffered first degree burns after a boat fire over the weekend.

Lake Orion deputies responded to a report of a boat fire in the 100 block of S. Andrews Street. After fueling the boat at their dock, the owner of the watercraft attempted to start the vessel when it flashed over, burning the four occupants.

The occupants of the vessel were able to use a fire extinguisher to put out the onboard fire prior to the arrival of the Lake Orion Fire Department.

Despite being burned, all four occupants of the vessel refused medical attention. The Oakland County Seriff's Office Marine Unit responded to the scene to take a report of the incident.

The occupants included the 78-year-old male owner and operator of the boat, a 78-year-old female -- both of Orion Township -- a 56-year-old male resident of St. Petersburg, Fla., and a 40-year-old female from Williamsburg, Va. All four suffered first degree burns to their feet and legs but refused medical attention.
