SAUGATUCK, Mich. (WWJ) -- A small Michigan beach town has gained a new celebrity this summer.

A friendly deer in the town of Saugatuck, located on the shores of Lake Michigan, first started grabbing headlines over the 4th of July holiday weekend when he was seen mingling with beachgoers and cooling off in the lake at the Saugatuck Dunes State Park.

The story went viral, even gaining national attention. It turns out, the deer is well-known in the area for being friendly with humans. Members of the Saugatuck High School cross country team often train at the state park and have reportedly had numerous interactions with him, naming him "Jimmy."

Jimmy stole the spotlight again a few weeks later when he showed up as a surprise guest at a couple's engagement on the beach, cementing his status as a celebrity (he even has his own Twitter account).

One Michigan man had gone to great lengths to light candles in the shape of a heart in the sand, but he could not have dreamed of having Jimmy show up to make for an unforgettable proposal.

Well, it looks like Jimmy can't get enough of the limelight. He has helped yet another couple go viral, this time showing up at an engagement photo shoot. This unsuspecting group also got some once-in-a-lifetime pictures with Saugatuck's new celebrity.

Many wildlife enthusiasts and even DNR conservation officers have warned the public of the dangers of interacting with the deer that appears to be so unafraid of humans. The DNR says anyone who encounters Jimmy should not touch, feed or go near him.
