Garbage Truck Slams Into Pole Along Mound Road, Driver Killed

August 03, 2018 - 7:00 am

WARREN (WWJ) - Authorities say a garbage truck driver was killed when he crashed into a pole along a busy section of Mound Road in Warren.

The crash happened Friday morning along southbound Mound at Chicago Road, between 13 Mile and 14 Mile roads.

Police say the driver apparently suffered some type of medical emergency before he lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole in the median, causing the traffic signals and power lines to come down across the southbound lanes.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police say the exact nature of the man's medical issue remains unknown.

No other vehicles were involved and no one else was injured.

Southbound Mound Road was closed at Chicago Road for quite some time, but has since reopene to traffic.
