(WWJ) The first of its kind, it was landmark venue copied across the world.

Now the Palace of Auburn Hills sits stripped of its outer walls, and its majesty, at 6 Championship Dr. off I-75.

A series of haunting photos snapped by Mystic Wasteland Photography show what's left of the outside, as well as a peek inside the arena where the Detroit Pistons played their 1989, 1990 and 2004 Championship games.

The Palace opened in August of 1988 and held its final event in October of 2017. The Pistons moved out of the Palace and into Little Caesars Arena in Downtown Detroit after the 2016-17 season. The venue was then sold and marked for demolition last year

Plans are in the works to redevelop the Palace property and the surrounding land for a mixed-use development.
