DETROIT (WWJ) -- Get ready to hit the court. The Pistons Academy is calling all young basketball players.

The Pistons Academy is offering summer basketball camps for boys and girls grades 3-9 loaded with instruction, games, fun and Pistons entertainment.

There are 19 different camp locations throughout metro Detroit and three destination camps -- in Lansing, Grand Rapids and Mt. Pleasant. One camp is held at Little Caesars Arena, home of the Pistons.

"It does not matter if you are a shy beginner or a confident superstar, we have an excellent staff of coaches that are trained to teach at really any level," said Geo Thomas, director of the Pistons Academy. "So when you come into our camp, we always have two goals – to make you a better basketball player and to have fun."

Thomas says not only will your kids learn the fundamentals and importance of team play, they may even meet Hooper, the Pistons mascot.

Thomas says campers will spend three or four hours a day "doing a lot of the same drills that the NBA rookies do in May." After daily lunch, the camps break into different age groups so they play with and against kids of their own caliber.

He says for the beginner division, their philosophy is to create a love for basketball.

"Kids love competition at any level, so we just want to make sure they’re placed in the right group so they walk out of there knowing ‘I had a chance for this or I had a chance for that.’ No one likes to lose," Thomas said."
