Hundreds Of Entrepreneurs Meeting Up In Detroit Sunday

DETROIT (WWJ) - More than 300 people are expected at a networking event for entrepreneurs on Sunday to wrap up Detroit Startup Week.

Jalen Crawford is one of the organizers of the "You Start Up! We Toast Up!" event on the East Riverfront.

"We just want the event to be a place where people can share resources and meet other entrepreneurs in the city and talk about their startups or what they have going on to see how we can help each other. We want this event to be a hub for that," he said.

Crawford said being an entrepreneur is something to be celebrated.

"One thing that we were thinking about when planning this event was the fact that, like my mom always says, until recently entrepreneurship was considered unemployment. So, we want to take the time to give those people some recognition, who took that risk of getting into entrepreneurship and to give them a chance to celebrate that, as well," he said.

Crawford's brother Jordan said it can be a challenge for Detroit entrepreneurs to connect with each other.

"What makes it difficult is if you don't have that many opportunities to network with people. And I think this is what we're doing Sunday is kind of a start off, just giving people more opportunity to explore their creative sides," he said.

The "You Start Up! We Toast Up!" event is being held Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at 6340 East Jefferson Avenue.  For free admission, register at DetroitStartupWeek.com and add East Riverfront Mix and Mingle to your schedule.
