Jet Ski Accidents On Two Separate Lakes Injure Several People

One person is in critical condition

OAKLAND COUNTY (WWJ) - Two separate incidents this weekend involving jet skis have left several people with injuries. 

The first incident took place just before 3 p.m. Saturday on Union Lake as a woman tried to start the personal watercraft when, according to the Sheriff's Marine Patrol, the jet ski the Bloomfield Hills woman was trying to start exploded -- throwing her into the water. She was transferred to Providence Hospital in Novi with cuts and abrasions to her foot and ankle. She was last reported to be in stable condition.

A couple hours later, on South Commerce Lake, two people from Ohio thrown from a jet ski after hitting a wave at high speeds. The passenger was then struck by the jet ski -- causing serious facial injuries. He was also rushed to Providence Hospital, where he was last reported in critical condition. Both persons were wearing life jackets at the time.

Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
