John Travolta's 'Gotti' Movie Gets 0 Percent Approval On Rotten Tomatoes

Critics were less than impressed

(WWJ) There are lukewarm receptions and then there's this: John Travolta's new biopic about John Gotti earned 0 percent approval from critics on the crowdsourcing movie review site rottentomatoes.com.

The site divides reviews into two categories -- moviegoers and critics. And while moviegoers awarded it a comparatively robust 79 percent approval, critics were less than impressed.

A sampling of the savagery includes this from Rolling Stone, "Starring in this mobster biopic that deserves to get whacked is an offer Travolta should have refused. Insane testimonials from Gotti supporters at the end are as close as this s---show will ever get to good reviews."

Another said it wasn't fun, even ironically.

Critics, in fact, seemed to stretch out their own creative muscles to entertain with descriptions of how terrible they believe the movie to be.

"I'd rather wake up next to a severed horse head than ever watch "Gotti" again," the New York Post reported.

"He may have been a murderer, but even Gotti deserved better than this," another added for rogerebert.com.

It has many wondering if this could make the prolific Travolta the star of the two worst films of all times -- "Gotti" and "Battlefield Earth."

The audience was kinder to "Gotti" than the critics, with many giving it five stars. One wrote, "This movie is 100% fresh! These rotten tomato critics need to stop putting their liberal agenda into movie reviews. Fyi All these critics now have been labeled suppressive."

But the damage has been done. The movie made a paltry $1.6 million on its opening weekend at the box office, the second worst Travolta movie opening of all time.

TheWrap.com reported that “Gotti” needed to make around $3 million to be considered a successful launch.
