Kroger Closing 1 Store, Opening 2 More In Metro Detroit

May 04, 2019 - 1:12 pm

DEARBORN (WWJ) - When one door closes, two more open -- at least that's the case for Kroger.

The company is closing a location in metro Detroit but has plans to open two new stores, remodel 11 others and add three new fuel centers.

The store getting the ax is located at 23000 Michigan Avenue in Dearborn, just east of Outer Drive. The company made the decision to close the store on May 18 due to financial reasons. All employees will be offered employment at other area stores, including right across the street at 23303 Michigan Avenue.

New stores will open in Warren and Sterling Heights, with the latter a Kroger Marketplace featuring kitchenware, baby items and toys, clothing, wine, beer and more.

Kroger will also bring Kroger Pickup to 20 Michigan store locations during the coming months. Pickup is an online ordering service that allows customers to shop online for groceries and other products and then pick up orders at requested stores.

The company didn't say which stores would be undergoing remodels, or where the new fuel centers will be located.
