Lakeshore Flood Warning In Effect Through Weekend

June 08, 2019 - 12:07 pm

DETROIT (WWJ) - A flood warning is in effect right now for people living along Lake St. Clair and Lake Erie.

The National Weather Service has posted a Lakeshore Flood Warning that lasts until 1 a.m. Monday for portions of Monroe, Wayne and Macomb counties.

Forecasters say east winds of between 20 and 25 miles per hour will push water levels higher on both Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair. The combination of rising water and onshore wave action will cause significant flooding along the shorelines of both lakes.

Residents on or near the shore in the warned areas should be alert for rising water and take appropriate action to protect life and property. Remember, don't drive through flooded streets.
