BRIGHTON, Mich. (WWJ) -- A baby boy is in critical condition after allegedly being abused by his mother's boyfriend.

The boyfriend, 21-year-old Luke Sementelli, is accused of "feverishly" shaking the 1-year-old boy and throwing him on the floor three times, causing him to hit his head on Monday. Sementelli was arraigned on one charge of second-degree child abuse and two charges of third-degree child abuse.

Sementelli is being held at the Livingston County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.

Child Protective Services reported the case to police on Tuesday after the child was transferred to Children’s Hospital from St. Joseph’s Woodland on a ventilator with injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome.

Police say the mother, who is pregnant with the boyfriend’s child, was in the same room when the incident occurred at her apartment at Brighton Cove Apartments, off of Grand River Avenue. No charges have been filed against the mother.
