ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - A 40-year-old man has been arrested and charged with breaking a Royal Oak restaurant.

Royal Oak police say Nicholas Colin Wilder entered Two Guys from Italy through a window, at around 4 a.m. on July 18. He allegedly stole cash and iPads from the pizza shop, located on N. Campbell Rd. near Gardenia, before fleeing.

While investigating the crime, detectives learned that Wilder man had been stopped by patrol officers at 3:38 a.m. that morning, shortly before the crime occurred. The man had been cited for a bicycle violation, police said, and sent on his way.

Detectives shared the identity of the suspect with patrol officers, and on Friday morning they found Wilder hiding in a vacant home on Knowles Street.

Police said Wilder is a former resident of Pleasant Ridge but is currently homeless.

He was arraigned in 44th District Court on one count of breaking and entering a building with intent, a 10-year felony, as well as one misdemeanor count of breaking and entering, which carries a penalty of up to 90 days in jail.

Bond was set at $15,000 cash/surety, no 10%, and a hearing in the case was scheduled for August 2.

Police said Wilder has no criminal convictions.
