Man Charged In 'Terrifying' Warren Home Invasion, Rape

WARREN (WWJ) - A 24-year-old man is being held without bond, charged in a home invasion and rape in Warren.

Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith says George Harris Patterson was riding his bike past the victim's house on Saturday when he saw her and followed her into her home without her knowledge. Once inside, it's alleged Patterson sexually assaulted the 37-year-old woman multiple times.

Patterson fled on his bike, according to prosecutors, but was tracked with a K-9 unit to the area of 7 Mile Rd. and Van Dyke. After the dogs lost the scent, police set up a perimeter, and Patterson -- who matched victim's description of her attacker -- was spotted, chased down and arrested after by Warren officers.

Patterson was arraigned in the 37th District Court Monday on charges of first degree home invasion, first degree criminal sexual conduct and resisting and obstructing police.

Bond was denied, and he was remanded to jail.

“I can’t imagine any circumstance more terrifying than what this victim was forced to endure. Thankfully our victim reached out for help right away," Smith said, in a statement.  “The Warren Police Department should be commended for their swift action in apprehending such a dangerous individual. The community can rest easier knowing this violent individual is off the street.”

Michigan Department of Corrections records show Patterson has a previous conviction for a 2017 home invasion in Wayne County. He served prison time, was released and was on probation.

Patterson faces up to life in prison if convicted as charged in this case.
