INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - He was dressed as a construction worker, but a robber had more than lunch in mind when he held up a Subway restaurant in northern Oakland County.

Sheriff's investigators say the man had on construction garb, complete with a dust mask over part of his face, when he walked into the Subway along Dixie Highway in Independence Township Monday night.

After placing an order for a sandwich, the man pulled a semi-automatic gun and demanded cash from the till. Once the cash was in hand, the clerk was ordered into the freezer. The robber took off with nearly $300 in cash and left his sandwich on the counter.

Surveillance video from a nearby business along Dixie Highway tracked the robber fleeing the scene in a late model white Dodge Dart or Chrysler 200.

Police say the suspect is the same man who, while wearing the same construction gear, robbed the Subway on Adams Road in Oakland Township Sunday night. In that instance, police say the suspect got away with $200 cash and his meal.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 30-years-old and between 5’10”- 6’0” tall, wearing a red and white baseball hat and an orange construction vest.

A $1,000 cash reward is being offered for information in the case. Tips can be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
