FLAT ROCK (WWJ) - A Flat Rock man has formally been charged with premeditated murder in the deaths of his sister and brother-in-law.

Thomas Lane was ordered held without bond at an arraignment Tuesday, where he was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, fleeing and eluding second-degree, carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, and three counts of felony firearm second offense.

According to police, Lane had been living with his 59-year-old sister Catherine Markowski and her 56-year-old husband Mark Harris at the couple's home at the Deerfield Estates mobile home park, in the 24800 block of Chinook Court for several months prior to the murders.

Police were called to the home around 1:20 p.m. on March 31 and found the lifeless bodies of Markowski and Harris. According to reports, the couple's grandson found their bodies and then went to a neighbor's home for help. Both had been shot to death, and their vehicle was missing from the scene. At  5:35 p.m. that same day, police found Lane driving the victims' car on Benson Street in Trenton. At that point, he was taken into custody. Police also recovered a handgun from the vehicle.

Officials haven't yet revealed a motive in the case.

Lane is due back in court for a probable cause conference on July 10.
