HAZEL PARK (WWJ) - A 36-year-old man who allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death at their home in Hazel Park has been charged in her murder.

Benjamin Wozniak was arraigned Saturday on a charge of first-degree murder, which carries a sentence of life in prison without the possiblity of parole. Bond was denied.

The incident happened late Thursday night at a residence on Hughes Avenue, near 9 Mile and Dequindre roads. Police were called to the home for a welfare check and found a 37-year-old woman, identified in reports as Natalie Urso, had been stabbed to death. The alleged murder weapon, a large knife, was located nearby in the lawn of a religious youth center.

Meantime, Centerline police were called to a home in their city after being contacted by a woman who said her boyfriend, Wozniak, was acting suspicious after returning from Urso's home. Wozniak was detained by Centerline police until Hazel Park police took him into custody.

Wozniak had fathered children with Urso and the two were still living together. A motive for the stabbing has not yet been released.

Two children were home during the incident but were not injured. They have since been turned over to family members.

Wozniak is due back in court January 22.
