Man Pleads Guilty In Drunken Driving Crash That Killed Retired Sterling Heights Police Officer

DETROIT (WWJ) - A man who drove drunk, causing a crash that killing a retired Sterling Heights police sergeant, has pleaded guilty in the case. 

Police said 30-year-old Jimi Pierowich was intoxicated while behind the wheel early in the morning of December 21, 2018, when he struck Daryl Brown, who was crossing E. Jefferson Ave. at Beaubien, near the Renaissance Center in downtown Detroit.

Brown, 50, was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries. 

Pierowich fled the scene after the collision, but was tracked down by police and arrested. 

On Tuesday, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said Pierowich pleaded guilty to a charge of Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death, with a sentence agreement of 42 months to 15 years in prison. 

Brown, who was married to Macomb County Judge Jennifer Faunce, worked for the Sterling Heights police department for 26 years before he retired. The couple has two children.

Sentencing for Pierowich is scheduled for Tuesday, May 21, before Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Mariam Bazzi.
