Metro Airport To Ticket Drivers Who Wait Too Long At Passenger Pick Up, Drop Off

July 14, 2018 - 2:41 pm

ROMULUS (WWJ) - Whether you're picking up or dropping off at Metro Airport, don't linger longer than necessary at the curb.

Wayne County Airport Police have had to step up patrols over the past few weeks, and Chief Darryl Brown says it's because of an increase of drivers ignoring the rules for the passenger drop off and pick up zones.

"Maybe because it's the summer, it's the traveling season and we're getting an increase as it relates to travelers. So that increases the parking as well," Brown told WWJ's Mike Campbell.

Brown said airport police will be stepping up patrols and though they don't want to ticket drivers or tow vehicles that stay parked curbside, they will.

"We know the peak times out here and what we're trying to do is just make sure the experience is great for all people that come out here, and get people in and out of traffic as quickly as possible," he said.

If you get to the airport early and have to wait, you can park in one of two cellphone lots outside of the airport -- the south lot is on Eureka Road and the other lot is on the north service drive.
