LANSING (WWJ) - Michigan Democratic Party delegates Sunday overwhelmingly nominated Jocelyn Benson for Michigan Secretary of State in November.

Benson’s nomination follows the party's early endorsement of her campaign last April and comes on the heels of an unprecedented million dollar fundraising effort to-date, which Benson reported earlier this month.

Benson told delegates in her acceptance speech.  “As Secretary of State,  I will implement a "30-Minute Guarantee" so whether you’re renewing a driver’s license or voting, our goal is to get you in and out in 30 minutes or less.”

Earlier in the week, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Gretchen Whitmer named Garlin Gilchrest II, of Detroit as her running mate.

Jocelyn Benson is the CEO of the Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality (RISE) and the former Dean of Wayne State University Law School.
