2020 Michigan Primary Election Results Are In — Take A Look

(WWJ) Just about all of the results from Tuesday's Primary Election in Michigan in, after a slight delay due to absentee voting. 

In one of the most closely watched races, sitting Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper was defeated by challenger Karen McDonald on the Democratic side.

Elsewhere, ex-Fendale Mayor Dave Coulter will have a chance to keep his job as Oaklans County Executive, after beating Democratic opponent, Treasurer Andy Meisner. He will go on to face Republican Mike Kowall. 

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy had a big lead over her Democratic challenger with nearly all of the votes counted. She won't have an opponent in November.

In Macomb County, Republican Pete Lucido and Democrat Mary Chrzanowski will face off to become the new Macomb County Prosecutor.

Democratic U.S. Representatives Rashida Tlaib and Debbie Dingell, as pollsters had expected, both won their primaries.

With an unprecedented number of absentee ballots, full primary results weren't known until midday Wednesday.

Michigan's Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson held a press conference Tuesday night saying a record number of voters submitted absentee ballots amid the pandemic.

"I know there is lots of concern about when we will receive the election results," she said. "While a lot of communities have made strides counting absentee ballots it could be well into tomorrow before we know the results."

There were about 1.6 million submitted early, she said, adding that the state anticipated the final number to be closer to two million."
