Mom Arrested After Child Found Alone In SUV At Motor City Casino

August 03, 2018 - 6:50 pm

DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities have located and arrested the mother of a 2-year-old boy who was found alone in the parking garage at Motor City Casino.

A casino security officer found the child Friday morning inside a white Ford Explorer that was parked on the garage's third floor.

The child, who was apparently unharmed, was turned over to police custody as officers searched for his parents.

Just before 9 a.m., police located the boy's mother. At this time, it's unclear if the woman was gambling at the time the child was found, but officials said she was not working at the casino.

Child abuse investigators are now questioning the mother about how her child ended up alone in the vehicle. It's not clear how long he was left unattended.

Investigators said later Friday a warrant package is being prepared for review by the prosecutor's office. The 25-year-old could be facing child abuse charges.

The child has been placed in the care of family member.
