Mother In Custody After Death Of Toddler Ejected From Car During Accident

August 09, 2018 - 8:23 pm

DETROIT (WWJ) - A toddler has died after being ejected from a vehicle during an accident Thursday evening and his mom is in custody.

An investigation into the death of the three-year-old is no longer connected to a possible hit-and-run as police originally reported to WWJ Newsradio 950.

Investigators say the toddler was inside the mom's Dodge Caravan that was traveling eastbound on  7 Mile Road when it struck another vehicle, which was driving lawfully, on Hayes.

That's when the child was ejected from the van, and according to police, the mom struck and killed the child as the car spun out as a result of the collision.

The mother, who has not been identified, is now in custody. Police indicating that alcohol was likely a factor in the crash.

Two other children in the car, an eight-year-old and a three-month-old were hospitalized with non-life-threatening issues. There are two GoFundMe accounts (linked is one of them) online for funeral costs.
