DETROIT (WWJ) -  Police say a man was ejected from his vehicle and fatally injured in a crash with a suspected drunk driver on I-94 early Saturday morning.

The crash happened around 3:15 a.m. on eastbound I-94 near Chalmers. Police received a 911 call about a serious crash and a man lying on the freeway. When troopers arrived at the scene, they confirmed the 34-year-old Rochester hills man was dead.

According to police, the man was traveling along the freeway when he lost control of his car, struck the left shoulder wall and drove into the right lane. A Toyota pickup truck traveling in the right lane then struck the man's car from behind, causing it to spin. The man was ejected from his car and fatally injured.

The driver of the Toyota was suspected of driving while impaired. A breath test performed at the scene indicated the driver had a blood alcohol content of .17, according to police. The legal limit to drive in Michigan is .08. The driver was taken into custody and lodged at the Detroit Detention Center.

No other injuries were reported.

The crash remains under investigation.

The highway was closed at Connor for about five hours while police were investigating, but has since reopened to traffic.
