Musical Tribute To Aretha Franklin: 'Music ... Speaks To The Heart'

DETROIT (WWJ) - In the days leading up to the funeral for Aretha Franklin several events in the city of Detroit including a musical tribute to the Queen of Soul at Chene Park. 

Hundreds lined up to get a spot at the free concert Thursday night bringing folks from different parts of the world to share in the memory of Franklin who died on Aug. 16. 

Deena Shreeve was moved by the event saying, "it's really bringing people together."  

"The music impacts, in France too, soul music, you know, speaks to the heart, and we know her and we like it," Ann Gaile told WWJ's Stephanie Davis. 

Other artists performing Thursday night: Gladys Knight, Regina Bell, Angie Stone and Johnnie Gill.

Aretha Franklin died of pancreatic cancer. She was 76.
