WARREN (WWJ) - Ten children and one adult from Warren have been are being treated at area hospitals after they were exposed to something that made them sick.

According to Warren Mayor Jim Fouts, it's not known at this time what it was that sickened the kids, who range in age from two to ten years old, at a home on Jewett Avenue.

Some the children were removed by police from the home, Fouts said, north of 9 Mile and west of Hoover Road, Monday afternoon.

"Several of the kids were first taken to the hospital -- might have been by a parent," he told WWJ's Sandra McNeill. "The police were notified and then they came to the house, and there were seven other kids that needed to go to a hospital, too."

Fouts said the children are "very ill." Although he's not able to release any details about their symptoms at this time, the mayor said: "Three seemed to be having more difficulty than the other seven, but all of them seemed to have some sort of exposure."

As far as the children's conditions, Fouts said he is not able to share those details at this time.

"Between police and fire, we don't know yet what caused this exposure...So police are investigating, fire is investigating, and no one has come up with any conclusions yet as to what may have caused this exposure," Fouts said. "Until they find out what caused this, they don't want to release any information."

This was not a daycare center, Fouts said, but a private home. Although, the mayor said he's not sure if all of the children are related.
