TROY (WWJ) - A 20-year-old Troy man who was arrested in the bludgeoning death of his aunt has been charged with first-degree murder.

Nayir Masrur was arraigned Wednesday in 52-4 District Court. Bond was denied.

Masrur is accused of hitting 55-year-old Rubab Huq over the head with a 15-pound dumbbell following a heated argument in the basement of a home on Shoreline, near Square Lake and John R.

When police responded to a 911 call from the home, around 2:30 p.m. Monday, Masrur jumped out of a second story window and fled the scene on foot. After more than an hour of searching with K-9 units, police say he was discovered hiding in the weeds near a golf course on South Boulevard.

Four area schools were placed on lockdown during the search for Masrur.

Masrur, who faces life in prison if convicted as charged, is due back in court Nov. 27 for a probable cause conference.
