Eastpointe Police: 1 In Critical Condition, Person Of Interest In Custody After Bar Shooting

EASTPOINTE, Mich. (WWJ) -- A person of interest is in police custody and a man is fighting for his life following a shootout outside of an Eastpointe bar early Saturday morning.

Eastpointe police say they were called to the Last Call Bar, on 10 Mile Road near Greenfield Road around, around 2 a.m. on the report of a fight in the parking lot.

As officers were responding, additional 911 calls began to come in regarding multiple gunshots at the same location and several patrons being struck, according to police. A suspect in a silver SUV fled the scene.

Officers and medical personnel rendered aid to several gunshot victims, who were transported to nearby hospitals.

In total, four men and two women were shot during the incident, and a 34-year-old man was was listed in very critical condition after suffering a gunshot wound to his head. The other victims were being treated for their injuries Saturday, but police did not update their conditions Sunday.

Police said after an investigation, including eyewitness statements, a person of interest was taken into custody Saturday evening, but the investigation is still ongoing.

It was not clear what started the fight that led to the shooting or how many people fired shots during the incident.
