1 Killed, 2 Injured In Chain-Reaction Crash On John R In Troy

TROY (WWJ) - A woman was killed and two other people were injured in a chain-reaction crash along a busy road in Troy Tuesday just as the evening commute was picking up. 

The crash happened around 4:15 p.m. on John R near Orpington, just north of Big Beaver.

According to police, a car traveling southbound on John R swerved into the northbound lanes and collided with a vehicle that was traveling northbound.

After the first vehicle, a silver 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, collided with the second, it rolled over. The second vehicle, a gray 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was then hit by another car that unable to stop in time. That car was also rear ended by another car that was unable to stop in time.

A 27-year-old Warren woman who was sitting in the front passenger seat of the silver Jeep was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 28-year-old Eastpointe woman, was seriously injured and transported to the hospital for treatment. 

The driver of the second Jeep, who was not identified, was also treated for suspected serious injuries and transported to a nearly hospital. 

None of the other drivers involved were injured. 

A cause of the crash remains under investigation. Police say alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors at this time.

John R was closed for approximately four hours while police were investigating the scene, but has since reopened to traffic.
