DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit teen is facing criminal charges after his friend was killed in a shooting.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office has charged the 15-year-old boy with careless discharge of a weapon causing death.

Investigators say the teen shot another 15-year-old boy last Sunday morning at a home on Belton Street, in a west side neighborhood off Tireman Avenue between Greenfield Road and the Southfield Freeway. The victim was unresponsive when police arrived at the scene and was later declared dead at the hospital.

A motive for the shooting hasn't been released. Prosecutors described the suspect and victim as acquaintances.

Bond was set at $7,000 at a preliminary hearing Monday. If he's released on bond, the teen must agree to have no contact with the victim's family.

A pre-trial conference in the case scheduled for Oct. before Judge Christopher Dingell at the Lincoln Hall of Justice.
