SUMMERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ) -- Two men are in custody after allegedly firing gunshots toward Monroe County Probation Officers Monday morning.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says shortly before 10:30 a.m. Monday,  deputies were dispatched to the 600 block of Rose Road near the area of Deerfield Road and Saline Street on the report of shots fired out of a residence. Officials say the shots were allegedly fired in the direction of two Monroe County Probation Officers who were attempting to make contact at the front door of the residence to conduct an investigation.

Shortly after deputies arrived, a 22-year-old man and a 27-year old woman were taken into custody without incident. That's when deputies learned that a 27-year-old man and two young children were still inside the home. Due to the circumstances, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Special Response Team was called to the scene.

Authorities learned the man inside was in violation of his probation terms and just after noon, members of the response team made contact with the man, who was cooperative and complied with requests to exit the home. The man was arrested without incident.

The sheriff's office says the woman was questioned and released, while the 22-year-old man, who was suspected of firing the weapon, was arrested at the scene and lodged at the Monroe County Jail. The 27-year-old was arrested for violating his probation and also taken to the jail.

Both men were being held at the jail, pending further investigation.

Police say no one involved in the incident, including the two probation officers, sustained any injuries. The weapon used in the incident was recovered from the home.

The names of those involved are being withheld, pending investigation.
