23-Year-Old Westland Woman Found Dead In Hines Park

Police believe she was murdered

WESTLAND (WWJ) - A homicide investigation is underway after a woman was found dead in Westland's Hines Park.

Westland Police Sgt.Robert Wilkie says the victim has been identified as a 23-year-old Westland woman, and that police believe she was murdered. 

"We currently have a suspect in custody and there is no immediate threat to the community," Wilkie said, in a statement. adding:"This is an active investigation, and due to this there are no further details that we are able to release at this time."

The Westland Police Department, Westland Fire Department, Wayne County Sheriff's deputies and the Wayne County Dive Team were all on the scene after the woman's body was discovered Friday afternoon. Reports said the body was discovered partially submerged in the Rouge River, although police did not immediately confirm that detail.
