'We're All Grieving': 2nd Wayne County Sheriff's Deputy Dies Of COVID-19

(WWJ) A second Wayne County Sheriff's deputy has died as a result of the coronavirus. 

WWJ Newsradio 950 was told the 51-year-old was admitted to the hospital last week after testing positive for COVID-19. He then and died this afternoon at Garden City Hospital. 

The deputy, who was married, was a coroporal and 16-year veteran of the Wayne County Sheriff's Department. 

Sheriff Benny Napoleon spoke about the impact of this tragedy on his staff during an interview on WWJ. 

"We're all grieving," the sheriff said. "He was a very well-respected and well-loved member of this agency."

This comes after, last week, Commander Donafay Collins died from COVID-19 complications. 

As of Saturday, Wayne County has 2,804 cases and 121 deaths. That number, reported by the state health department, excludes the City of Detroit, which is counted separately.
