Announced earlier Friday: Four metro Detroit hospital systems and a leading research university will be joining forces to be bring large-scale COVID-19 drug trials to the area.

Doctors from Henry Ford Health System, Ascension Michigan, Beaumont, Detroit Medical Center and Wayne State University are teaming up to form the study group. Doctors affiliated with the five organizations collectively treat millions of patients a year, which provides a large-scale study opportunity for potentially life-saving treatment options.

Meanwhile,  Gov. Gretchen Whitmer says the state is having trouble getting the equipment they need to fight the novel coronavirus, without the help of the federal government. After President Donald Trump attacked her on Twitter, Whitmer said live oni WWJ that she's "not stepping up," and "doesn't know what's going on."
