CANON (WWJ) - Thieves smashed their way into an Emagine Theatre while a cleaning crew was inside, but it wasn't a movie they were after.

It happened early Wednesday morning at the Emagine on Ford Road just east of I-275 in Canton.

According to Canton police, a Dodge Ram pickup truck backed through the front doors and into the lobby of the theatre, where it repeatedly rammed an ATM until the cash box fell out onto the floor. One of the three suspects got out of the truck and grabbed the cash box, then fled the scene.

It's unclear how much money the suspects got away with.

A cleaning crew, including one person who was on the job for his first day, was inside the theater, but no injuries were reported.

Police said the truck was recovered a short time later at a neighboring business. The vehicle, it was discovered, had been stolen earlier in the night from a nearby apartment complex, according to police.

The incident remains under investigation.
