LIMA TWP. (WWJ) - The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office says it has identified a man who was hit and killed by a train earlier this week.

It happened just before noon on Nov. 5, officials said, in the areas of Lima Center Rd. and Dexter Chelsea Rd. In Lima Township.  According to a witness, the man may have intentionally run in front of the path of the Amtrak passenger train, which was heading west to Battle Creek from Pontiac.

While WWJ Newsradio 950 does not typically report on deaths that are suspected to be suicides, authorities had asked the media to run a description of the unidentified man, in hopes that someone might might be able to help figure out who he was.

On Friday, officials sent an update saying the man was identified as 32-year-old resident of Chicago who was studying law at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

"We are not releasing his name at this time as we allow family to be notified," the sheriff's office said, in a statement. "Thank you for your help in sharing this story as it was key in helping make the connection to his friends and family."
