MT. CLEMENS, Mich. (WWJ) -- A local bodybuilder has pleaded no contest to the attempted murder and torture of his girlfriend at their rental home in Washington Township last summer.

Paul Bashi, 36, is accused of kicking 23-year-old Kristina Perry nearly 100 times, punching her about 50 times and stabbing her around two dozen times on July 29, 2018. He made the no-contest plea Tuesday in Macomb County Circuit Court. His trial was scheduled to go to trial on Tuesday.

Bashi, who has been held on $5 million bond since last summer, also pleaded guilty to drug charges for illegally possessing steroids.

Surveillance cameras inside the home -- located on Cathey Street near 27 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue -- captured the roughly 30-minute attack, according to the Macomb Daily. Bashi also hit Perry with a chair and threw items at her, including candles.

Bashi remains jailed. His sentencing is set for Oct. 23. He could face up to life in prison.

Bashi pleaded to the crime as a three-time habitual criminal. He served around six years in federal prison for conspiracy to commit wire fraud in a mortgage and loan scheme. He had also been charged with domestic violence and drunk driving in previous cases.
