MONROE (WWJ/AP) - The search for a missing couple last seen on their first date in Monroe County has come to a tragic end.

Jill Parrinello Davey, 50, and Darrin Gabbard, 48, were discovered dead inside a car in Lake Erie on Friday. Divers located the vehicle in about 13 feet of water just off the Toledo Beach Marina in La Salle Township.

The pair, from Manchester and Allen Park, disappeared a week ago -- reportedly on their first date. The couple apparently connected online and were meeting each other for the first time on Aug. 16.

The deaths are being treated as an accident. Police believe the driver might have been confused after leaving a nearby bar and mistakenly drove the car into the lake. Neither Davey or Gabbard were wearing seat belts, police told The Monroe News, so investigators can't determine who was behind the wheel.

Cell phone records led police to the marina, according to the newspaper, where a sonar scan revealed that the car was submerged about 50 feet offshore.
