(WWJ) - Dangerous waters are expected across the Great Lakes this week.

The National Weather Service has issued Beach Hazard Statements all along Lake Michigan and most of Lake Huron.

Forecasters say high waves, strong currents and dangerous swimming conditions should be expected through Wednesday night.

A high swim risk means life threatening waves and currents are expected. Officials are encouraging people to stay out of the water and stay away from dangerous areas like piers and breakwalls.

Wednesday in particular will be dangerous on Lake Michigan across the entire western coast, with waves as large as 5 to 6 feet.
