(WWJ) A Dearborn Heights man is behind bars after it's alleged he stabbed his mother to death, and then fled the state.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged 32-year-old Mohamed Ali Saad with first degree, premeditated murder in connection with the slaying last Thursday

At around 7 p.m. on April 16, Dearborn Heights Police Department received a 911 call to a home in the 27000 block of Simone Street about a 64-year-old woman.

When officers arrived, they found Fatemah Ibrahim Saad of Dearborn Heights in the basement, suffering from multiple stab wounds to her neck. She was treated by EMS at the scene but succumbed to her injuries.

According to prosecutors, it's alleged that Mohamed Saad fatally stabbed his mother multiple times before fleeing to Bradley County, Tennessee where he was found on Saturday.

He was arrested there as a result of a coordinated effort by the Dearborn Heights Police Department, the U.S. Marshall’s Office and the Tennessee Highway Patrol, authorities said.

On Monday, the defendant was expected to appear in court for proceedings in Tennessee to arrange his extradition back to Michigan.

“Clearly, acts of domestic violence abound in Wayne County during non-pandemic times," Worthy said in a statement. "The alleged facts in this case illustrate the potential for domestic violence in the age of the COVID-19 pandemic.  As I stated last week, it is expected that because families are at home and together more than usual, incidents of family violence may be more prevalent.  Please know that there is help available for families in crisis before these tragedies occur.  Please seek that help."
