(WWJ) The American Muslim Society is suing the Woodmere Cemetery in Detroit, claiming they will not bury Muslims.

The lawsuit stems from a contract dispute between the Dearborn mosque and the cemetery. The mosque said it purchased one thousand plots at the burial ground near Fort Street and I-75 on the city’s southwest side.

The mosque said it paid for 622 of them, with plans to pay for the rest.

However, the cemetery demanded payment for all one thousand burial plots before it will bury anyone; according to the American Muslim Society.

The mosque leader said Woodmere Cemetery proposed a new contract that would double the cost of the burial sites.

The mosque denied the offer and moved to sue the cemetery. A press conference is scheduled on the matter for later this afternoon.
