Detroit Businessman Matty Moroun Dead At Age 93

(WWJ) Billionaire Detroit businessman Manuel "Matty" Moroun has died.

The 93-year-old passed away peacefully at his home in Grosse Pointe Shores on Sunday, as first reported Monday by Crains Detroit Business. The cause of death is said to be congestive heart failure.

Moroun is best known for owning the Ambassador Bridge, the largest border crossing between the U.S. and Canada, since 1979.  

His companies also owned the historic Michigan Central Station in Detroit, until Ford Motor Co. bought it in 2018,  as well as logistics and transport companies.   

The Moroun family's net worth was recently estimated by Forbes to be at around $1.7 billion,

Moroun attended the University of Detroit Jesuit High School and majored in chemistry and biology at the University of Notre Dame.

Moroun is survived by his wife, Nora and his son, Matthew Moroun.
