(WWJ) -- A 2-year-old girl died after police believe she accidentally activated the power window in a car where her dad was sleeping.

The child's head was stuck in the window, and she did not survive her injuries.

"Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries," A Detroit police spokeswoman told WWJ Newsradio.

Dad was taken into custody at the scene for questioning, police said.

"I'm not sure of charges at this moment," the spokeswoman said.

The incident happened Monday inside a 2005 Mazda parked outside the family's home on Winthrop, near Grand River Avenue on Detroit's west side.

Relatives told WXYZ, which first reported the story, that the girl fell asleep and when he woke up, he "found his daughter's lifeless body."

The assumption is that the toddler accidentally activated the power window and her head was caught in the powerful mechanism.

The father cried out for help when he awoke and the child was transported to Sinai Grace Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The investigation continues, Detroit police said.
